Riding Across America for Water Life Hope

I'm Sara Yurman.  Here I am unboxing the bike I'll be riding across America with husband Steve and pal Carol.  We're raising money for Water Life Hope (WLH).  WLH brings clean water to Haiti (300+ artesian wells and counting) and throughout the Caribbean.  With 0% administrative cost.  Every dollar goes directly to providing water.  Each of those Haitian wells serves up to 5000 people, and has a local person who takes care of it.  This is a very good deal.

So.  Here's the what happens next.  I'll report on the ride -- should be entertaining.  And we'll all chip in for Water Life Hope.  I'd really like to raise $10,000.  We'll be riding a bit over 2900 miles, reporting in every day or two with nifty trip pix.

Here are some ways to give.  Donate here.

Pledge a penny for each mile I ride.  That works great.  Cheap and fulfilling.  My back of the envelope calculation has me riding 2924 miles.  You'll almost certainly end up south of $30.

For a bigger thrill, move the decimal point.  A dime per mile still leaves you short of $300.

Or you can sponsor a state at a penny, a dime or a dollar per mile.  Here's a list.  The mileages are definitely "mas o menos".  Check out Kansas: it's a bargain.  If you're living large, New Mexico is the ticket.

  • California: 309 miles.
  • Arizona:    408 miles.
  • New Mexico: 503 miles.
  • Texas:      168 miles.
  • Oklahoma:   389 miles.
  • Kansas:      13 miles.
  • Missouri:   406 miles.
  • Illinois:   102 miles.
  • Kentucky:   123 miles.
  • Tennessee:  178 miles.
  • Alabama:    245 miles.
  • Georgia:     80 miles.

Send money for a state where you went to school, had a significant kiss or quit a job.  Just send it.  Some little kid who just needs to grow up will thank you.  And so will I.  Remember that every donation matters.  Chucking in a buck will definitely move the needle.  Thanks for listening.
